24/7 Server Rules (04/15/10)

Post by fox » Fri Jul 31, 2009 11:17 am

These rules are effective immediately following their time of update. Notices will be given via the server news.

====
Rules:
====

General:
-- Use common sense when talking in System/Universe Chat; everyone on the server can hear you. Do not use excessive profanity, do not spam the chat, do not use ALL CAPITAL LETTERS in your messages, etc. We should not have to spell out what falls under "common sense." If you think you're pushing the rules with your actions, you probably are.
-- Be courteous to others; rivalries are bound to happen from PvP combat, but don't get angry about it. If you end up with a personal vendetta to settle with someone, either keep it toned down, or take it elsewhere.
-- Absolutely no cheating. This includes, but is not limited to, altering game files to give you an advantage over other players, using on-the-fly memory edits (trainers), etc.
-- No running multiple instances of the game on a single PC. Yes, we CAN track this via FLHook and see when multiple accounts are logged in from a single PC. LANs are okay though, as long as every PC has its own person behind it and you're not just running multiple machines to work around this rule.
-- Absolutely no automatic scripts that do any of the following: automatically log you out near death, automatically use Nanobots near (or during) death, or automatically aim at targets (aimbots). Chat macros and other automatic scripts are fine.
-- 88 Flak is, as always, a work-in-progress. If you find any exploit or loophole in the game, you are expected to immediately report it to an admin (list of admins below). If you are found to be abusing an exploit (with or without reporting it), you will face consequences.
-- Finally, the whole point of 88 Flak is to have fun. There are bound to be things that irritate you about either the mod or people playing it, but take it with a grain of salt and not personally, please.

PvP:
-- PvP combat is allowed and encouraged to any ship, for any reason. Combat is combat, after all. Killing a pirate player, looting a transport player, backstabbing a friend, etc. is all fair game.
-- Although not required, it is heavily recommended that you at least announce your incoming attack to your victim - it's a lot more fun for both sides when you know a fight is coming.
-- Docking at a station to escape a fight is fair game; do not complain about it, either. Try to engage people in open space instead of near bases if this bothers you - this is what Cruise Disruptors are for. ;)
-- Logging out to escape a fight, however, is frowned upon - if you do, your ship will stay in space and continue to get shot, getting you killed anyways. You'll have much better odds (and more fun) trying to evade your attacker.
-- New players receive a "n00b Anti-PvP Token", which makes them unable to damage / take damage from other players. Shooting these players for fun, even though you can't damage them, is frowned upon - help new players out, please.
-- If a new player does discard the "n00b Anti-PvP Token", however, they are as fair of a target as any other ship.

Clans:
-- Official clans can only consist of 4 people or higher, and must have proof of in-game activity for at least 21 days to receive their own forum on the 88 Flak Clan Forums.
-- Un-official clans of less than 4 people are allowed, but will not be recognized as an official clan and will not receive their own forum. If you have a small tight-knit group of people, it is highly recommended that you instead join an official clan and form a special squad under their name.
-- You are only allowed to be officially registered under one clan for all characters. You can NOT, under any circumstances, register under two clans, even if they are allies. ALL of your characters must be registered as well - you can NOT have clan-less characters if you are in a clan.
-- If you decide to switch clans, ALL of your characters must change their clan-tags. You can change your name by using the /rename command - however, this command will cost $500,000, so pick your swaps wisely. This ties into the rule above. If you really can not afford to change all of your character names but still need to switch clans, an admin can do this change for you - however, we will check your credit balance just to be sure. ;)
-- Official clans can request admins to make certain changes - for example, set a specific rep for a faction across clan-members. Do not abuse this offer; the admins are busy folk and making clan-wise changes involves editing every character one at a time, which is a time-consuming process.

Looting:
-- Anything that is jettisoned into space - either from a player or NPC, and either death or intentional jettison - is all fair game. If you find that people keep stealing your loot, either find a better group to team with, or try to reason with them to split loot (nearly everyone on the server will gladly do so).
-- There is NO "insurance" for rare items. If you lose a rare - no matter how stupid the reason - forget about it, because it's gone. The admins aren't responsible for if someone blows up your Battleship and takes all your rares - if this really bothers you, use a Storage Depot, they can not be hurt by other players. Sorry, but this only ends up leading to arguments between players over rather or not someone should get a certain rare item back, so you'll just have to accept whatever happens.
-- The one and ONLY exception to this is if there is an obvious glitch within the mod that causes you to lose your rares. Speak to an admin, and a resolution will be worked out.

Role-Play:
-- There are no strict role-playing rules on the server. If you come across a player that is hostile to the faction you're flying under, you're encouraged to engage them; however, this is not required, and whether or not you actually engage the player is totally up to you.

====
Consequences:
====

First offense:
You will be issued a warning, detailing your offenses, and how to correct them (for example joining two hostile clans - you will be ordered to leave one of them). If the offense was small enough, it may not count against you at all, however please do not test us.
Alternatively, if a public announcement is made regarding an exploit, and you have been abusing this exploit, this automatically counts as a warning, and further action may be taken against you without notice. Such announcements will always be made in both the Server Forum and in-game Server News, so you will always have a heads-up about the issue. Don't abuse exploits, folks.

Second offense:
You will be kicked and banned from the server for a small period of time; anywhere from 30 minutes to a day, depending on the severity of the case.

Third offense:
You will be kicked and banned from the server for a long period of time; anywhere from a few weeks to a month or two, depending on the severity of the case. If there are any possible conditions of early return, a member of the administration will discuss this with you.

Fourth offense:
You will be banned indefinitely from the server. If there are any possible conditions of return, a member of the administration team will discuss this with you.

====
Appeals:
====

Punishment Appeals:
If you can demonstrate after a degree of punishment that you can behave on the server, we'll slowly wipe the marks off your record one at a time - so, if you offended the rules twice, but then behaved well for a few months, you would eventually have a clean slate.

Changes to the rules have been made. See the "Consequences" section; added more clarification on exploit handling, and removed a layer of consequences - tempbans are now issued after only one warning.

To anyone about to cry about these changes, these are more than fair. If you are not cheating or exploiting on the server, these changes will not affect you in the slightest. We are simply becoming more strict with how we handle cheaters and exploiters.

Changes have been made to clan registration; clans must now have proof of in-game activity for 21 days before being eligible for Clan Forums.

Multiple instances of the game on a single PC are now against server rules. See the "general" section for more information.

Also added clarification on a few rules.

Update to clan rules:
-- You are only allowed to be officially registered under one clan for all characters. You can NOT, under any circumstances, register under two clans, even if they are allies. ALL of your characters must be registered as well - you can NOT have clan-less characters if you are in a clan.

I regret this change, as I like to have some characters that are seriously involved in clan politics, and then others that are relaxed just-for-fun characters. However, since this does not seem to be a workable solution for the server, this has been changed.

Quick update to the server admin listing, because I realized that section was out of date.
